Yellowstone National Park Shooting Leaves Ranger Injured, Shooter Dead

Park Remains Closed Due to Flooding

Investigation Ongoing

Cody, Wyoming - A shooting in Yellowstone National Park left one park ranger injured and the shooter dead, according to the National Park Service. The incident occurred on Monday in the northern part of the park near the Norris Geyser Basin.

According to the NPS, the park ranger was responding to a report of a suspicious person when he encountered the shooter. The shooter fired at the ranger, striking him once in the leg. The ranger returned fire, killing the shooter.

The injured ranger was airlifted to a hospital in Cody, where he is in stable condition. The identity of the shooter has not been released. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Yellowstone National Park has been closed to visitors since Monday due to dangerous flooding conditions. The park will remain closed through at least Wednesday.

The flooding was caused by record rainfall and melting snow in the Yellowstone area. The floodwaters have washed out roads and bridges, and have also caused mudslides.

More than 10,000 visitors have been evacuated from the park. The National Park Service is working to assess the damage and begin cleanup efforts.
