Lululemon Accused of Greenwashing
Florida Resident Files Lawsuit
A Florida resident has filed a lawsuit against Lululemon, alleging that the brand is misleading consumers about its sustainability practices.
Class-Action Lawsuit
The class-action lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, accuses Lululemon of engaging in "greenwashing," or exaggerating the company's environmental friendliness to boost sales.
Competition Bureau Investigation
The lawsuit comes as Canada's Competition Bureau has launched an investigation into Lululemon over similar allegations. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from Stand.earth, a non-profit environmental organization.
Greenwashing Allegations
The lawsuit and investigation allege that Lululemon has used the slogan "Be Planet" and other marketing materials to create the impression that the company is committed to sustainability, when in reality, its practices do not meet these claims.
Exaggerated Climate Claims
The lawsuit specifically alleges that Lululemon has exaggerated the climate benefits of its products and has failed to disclose the environmental impact of its supply chain.
Misleading Consumers
"Lululemon has misled consumers into believing that its products are sustainable and environmentally friendly, when in reality, the company's practices fall short of these claims," said the plaintiff's attorney.
