Pirates Pummelled by Royals, Ending 4-Game Winning Streak
Ahoy, Mateys! Pittsburgh Pirates' Winning Streak Comes to an End
Royals' Offense Sinks Pirates' Ship
Kansas City Royals put an end to the Pittsburgh Pirates' four-game winning streak with a convincing 9-5 victory on Tuesday.
The Pirates, coming off a sweep of the Chicago Cubs, were unable to maintain their momentum against the Royals, who pounded out 14 hits, including three home runs.
Brad Keller, the Royals' starting pitcher, earned the win, allowing just two runs on six hits over five innings.
Pirates' Offense Struggles to Keep Pace
The Pirates' offense, which had been averaging over five runs per game during their winning streak, managed only five hits against the Royals' pitching staff.
Gregory Polanco, the Pirates' leadoff hitter, went 0-for-4, while Bryan Reynolds, the team's cleanup hitter, was 1-for-4 with a double.
The lone bright spot for the Pirates' offense was Ke'Bryan Hayes, who hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Defensive Gaffes Hurt Pirates
In addition to their offensive struggles, the Pirates also committed two errors in the field, which led to two unearned runs.
The first error came in the second inning when shortstop Kevin Newman misplayed a ground ball, allowing the Royals to score their first run.
The second error occurred in the fifth inning when left fielder Ben Gamel misjudged a fly ball, resulting in a two-run home run for the Royals' Hunter Dozier.
Pirates Look to Bounce Back
The Pirates will look to bounce back from their loss when they face the Royals again on Wednesday.
JT Brubaker will take the mound for the Pirates, while Kris Bubic will start for the Royals.
The Pirates will need to improve their offense and tighten up their defense if they want to avoid a series loss to the Royals.
