WHY IS THERE A FLOOD WATCH?
The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for the Capital Area, locations south and east, until 11:00 PM PDT Monday, March 6, 2023. This is due to heavy rain and snowmelt expected to impact the area over the next few days. The National Weather Service predicts up to 3 inches of rain and 12 inches of snow in the mountains.
WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
A FLOOD WATCH means that flooding is possible in the watch area. Be prepared to take action if flooding occurs. Monitor the latest forecasts and be ready to take action if flooding occurs. Do not drive through flooded areas. If you must walk through a flooded area, use a sturdy stick to help you keep your balance. Be aware of downed power lines and other hazards. If you see a downed power line, stay away from it and call 911.

The following areas are expected to be impacted by the flooding: Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, Mineral County, Washoe County, Churchill County, Lander County, Eureka County, Nye County, White Pine County, and Lincoln County. These areas should be prepared for flooding and take necessary precautions.
